How to use OSINT Atlas
A quick guide to finding official public-record portals and OSINT tools in the repository.
Getting started
- Create a free account: sign up free with your email and a password. No card needed.
- Log in: use Log in with your email and password.
- Your account: the Account page shows the email you're signed in with and lets you log out.
- Free without an account: this page, the search guides, the coverage map and the About page.
Searching
- One search box on the home page covers every records section and the OSINT tools.
- Everyday words work: try eviction, mugshots, LLC in Texas or marriage license. Suggestions appear as you type.
- Narrow to a state with the menu next to the search box, or by naming the state in your search.
- Grouped results: public records and OSINT tools are listed separately, and statewide systems shared by many counties appear once.
- Refine results with the filter box and the Free only, Owner / person-name search and No login checkboxes.
Browsing records sections
- Public Records menu (sidebar): Courts, Criminal & Inmate, Property, Business, Political, Licenses, Vital Records & Requests and Federal tools for the US, plus Canada and the UK.
- Pick a location: choose a state (or province or nation), add a county if you know it, then press Search. Your location stays picked when you switch sections.
- Case-type buttons on Courts (and More filters: free only, no login, working links only, court level, keyword) narrow the list.
- State pages list every source for one section and state. In results, a Start here box points to the main statewide systems, with tips where a county has no online search.
Reading listing badges
- Free / Paid
- Whether the official site charges per search, per document or by subscription.
- Login required
- You need an account on that site before searching.
- CAPTCHA
- The site asks you to prove you're human before searching.
- Statewide
- One state-run system. “Covers this county” means you may not need a county site.
- Working / May be blocked
- Result of our weekly link check. “May be blocked” means bot protection turned our checker away; the link usually works in a normal browser.
- No online search
- Records exist but must be requested in person, by mail or by phone.
- Person-name search
- You can search by a person's or owner's name, not just a case or parcel number.
- Notes
- Coverage notes under each listing explain gaps, fees or where to go instead.
OSINT tools
The OSINT menu lists curated open-source intelligence tools and guides by topic (19 topics, such as email, images, domains, archives and privacy & opt-out). No location needed; each tool notes whether it's free and what it does.
“I need to find…” guides
Short step-by-step checklists for common tasks: court cases, a property owner, who runs a business, someone in custody, a professional license and vehicles, aircraft and vessels.
Coverage map
The coverage map shows where the repository has listings, by section. Territories are listed in the repository but not shown on the map.
Sharing, saving and updates
- Copy link on any listing, or Copy link to these results for a whole search.
- Print / save list prints or saves a PDF; Download CSV saves the list for your notes.
- Recent searches and your theme are kept only in your own browser.
- What's new (members) lists new features and newly added sources.
Suggest a source or report a link
Use Suggest a resource in the header to send a site's name, address, section or topic, cost and why it's useful. Every suggestion is reviewed before anything is added, and public-record sources must be official. Use Report a broken link on any listing if a link is wrong or has moved.
Using official portals responsibly
- Follow each site's terms of use, fees and search limits; don't scrape or automate searches.
- Confirm important details with the clerk or agency; some records are confidential or not online.
- Don't use results for employment, tenant, credit or insurance screening (FCRA).
- Never use what you find to harass, stalk, dox or expose anyone.
- OSINT Atlas is a repository of links: it doesn't store records or run searches, and it isn't legal advice.
